September 28th - 23-13

Easy day at work. Yom Kippur, you know. Kind of a big thing amongst our clientele. So, I wore the jeans. I like wearing the jeans at work, because 1.) They're the most comfortable of all the pants, 2.) I'm a man, and men wear jeans. You get things done in jeans. Manly things. You don't put on jeans to close business deals and play golf. You put on jeans to rope steers and split wood and play football in the rain with Brett Favre.

Jeans.

Women, quit wearing heels with jeans. You're disgracing the jeans. It's like wearing gloves with a bathing suit. You look good enough in the jeans already.

Finished Metroid Prime last night. What does it say about me that I feel almost as good about finishing a video game as I do about reading a book. The time investment is about the same, depending upon the game/book. Games are harder to get through, books are more valuable. Games are more satisfying, books are more rewarding.

I wonder if I'll get a free lunch in Philly this Friday.

Downfield pass falls incomplete.

My ball. 3rd and 19 on my own 23.

  1. It's a year of tradeoffs, or rather, every year is a year of tradeoffs, but mine are differently situated this year than in others.

Or maybe that's not it at all, maybe instead of that, it's that this exercise pushes me to more clearly calculate the nature of those tradeoffs, to funnel them into the conceit of yardage.

I end the third quarter with my 39th birthday; there was maybe the most expensive birthday cake I've ever had; the most expensive pair of glasses I've ever purchased; and the best week of predicting college football games I've ever put together.

There's good and bad in all of that.

It's my second birthday with my lady friend; I've never made it to 3 with anyone, so my march to 40 gains some extra heft (this would be figurative, the cake would be the literal heft - oh, and I won the onion thing at Outback as a prize for the college football predicting, I haven't decided if I'll be collecting).

I'm working harder than at any point in my life. And I'm dead flat broke. My housing issue rivals your previous issue for money drain.

Add in my Niners (yay on nearly beating the Vikes on the road - boo on the finish) my Giants (yay on almost making the playoffs - boo on the finish) my Trojans (yay on winning this week, boo on playing poorly) - and its a constant push/pull with all matters in my life. My 2009 game a constant clash on the line of scrimmage, more tug of war than football game - a yard here, a yard there.

We end the third quarter with Life chewing up some clock with a sweep around the end, gaining nothing, but staying in bounds as they let the clock expire.

Life will punt from its own 39 to start the 4th. I trail 10-0.

    Good luck this weekend.
