February 4th - 0-0

I told you there'd be hockey. Wild 3-0 over the Ducks. I love to see shut-outs, and I love to see it happen against the Ducks, who I hate maybe as much as I hate the Dallas Stars. In case, though, it's simply because they're Disney, and are therefore more about moving DVDs of a crappy old movie than they are about hockey. Anyway, the win puts at 6th place in the Western Conference, but the Ducks are only two points ahead having played four more games than we have. Cautiously optimistic.

Still no word from idiot dad and his kid who wanted to buy my house. I guess we'll already have to move on from that.

And I'm told now that my daughter has been pretty bad at day care the past couple of days. Bad enough that the teacher had to talk to Tieraney. So, I had to have a long talk with Sophie last night, which was kind of fun for me, although she was crying the whole time. First of all, Sophie's adorable when she tries to talk while sobbing. Second, because I didn't get home until well after Tieraney told me about it, I wasn't really mad anymore, but I got to pretend to be. I wonder how often that happened with my parents. They always seemed to be genuinely mad when I was getting yelled at, but maybe they were just good actors.

Regardless, I'm not sure why Sophie's showing this sudden streak of disobedience, so we'll have to get that figured out.

Run up the middle is well defended and should've been a loss, but Life bounces outside for a couple.

Life's ball: 2nd and 8 on their own 14.

  1. Obedience is overrated.

Of this, I'm certain. Now, that doesn't help you in the moment. In the moment, you have to deal with specific behaviors by your girl and the specific relationship with the teacher, but in the broader "Kirk is responsible for creating a person" type of thought, it's better to be a little more disobedient than most people.

On my end, I owe 3 bills to the taxman this year; I always owe 3 bills to the taxman. On the other hand, a woman who previously passed on me now has some seller's remorse. That doesn't move the ball very far, as (1) I'm completely off the market and (2) she doesn't really mean it, but it happened.

An easy 7 yard pickup on a checkdown pass for Life; that leaves them with 3rd and 4 from their own 37, still beating me 7-0.

  2. Yeah, we're careful to allow Sophie to grow up to be who she's going to be. She's joyful. She's imaginative and she likes to play and make people laugh. What she hates is "circle time" at day care. Not a good sign, since it's more representative of what school will be like. So, we're working on preparing her for sitting at a desk all day. It's a hard sell to a five-year-old girl.
