February 20th - 0-0

Looming trouble. The boss talked to me today about the extra hours I'm working. The deal is that any billable hours I get beyond my average per month, up to 30 additional, I get paid for (I'm salaried, you see, so this obviously isn't part of the usual gig). He offered this because it's better for him to keep me working at the office than for me to take a job selling vacuum cleaners or renting movies. But, although the business is doing well, this economy sucks, in case you haven't noticed. Bruce anticipates that some of our clients may either go out of business or cut back on their website funding, hurting our bottom line. If this happens, obviously the first thing to go will be my extra hours, so...let's sell that house, okay?

Similarly, it looks as if Tieraney won't be getting that promotion. Her company's parent company has put on a hiring freeze and suspended raises due to the economy, and Tieraney can't get the promotion until they hire someone to take her current role. So, there goes that extra money.

One bright spot in all of this is that I got another Wii game for review. Deadly Creatures. This means my birthday list (next month) is now depleted, so I have to figure out what else I'll want.

Three yard run.

Life's ball: 3rd and 3 on my 37.

  1. An uneventful and inoffensive three yard run for me, setting up 3rd and 3 at my own 27.

But better than that - what's your record in previous years?

I was thinking about this last night; if I were to have played every year, what would be the results?

I decided to start the construction in '88, since that's the year I turned 18.

1988 - Loss, high scoring loss, a real crazy shootout, but a loss.

1989 - Loss, also close and fairly high scoring.

1990 - Loss, I think, this is one a little lost to history, the VHS is fuzzy - but I believe it to be a low scoring loss.

1991 - Win. Solid win, by a couple of scores.

1992 - Loss. Crazy swings, big plays, explosive, not quite matching the legendary '88 for ESPN Classic rewatch excitement, but pretty good.

1993 - Loss. A dreary loss. Like a game in the mud.

1994 - Loss. And a bad one. Coach got fired, players walked off the team, franchise almost folded type of a loss.

1995 - Loss, close and low scoring.

1996 - 1999: 4 straight losses. All similar and after not having a win since '91, fair for my fans to start wearing paper bags over their heads.

2000 - Win: With the biggest play in Jim v. Life history as part of a third quarter assault. Member when the Skins scored like 5 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter of that Super Bowl against Denver - this was like that.

2001 - Win: Close, low scoring, more of a grind it out win.

2002: Loss: After two straight I may have gotten cocky. Hung out with Diddy at the club and got fat.

2003: Win, I think - it was narrow but I think I got this one.

2004: Win - a solidly played game, good fundamentals, I establish my ground dominance.

2005: Loss, I think - similar to '03, but I think Life caught on to my scheme here at I was slow to react.

2006: Win - a return to the higher scoring, big swing games of the early years; this one I won like on a call overturned by replay.

2007: Win, a watered down version of '06, like playing '06 with backup quarterbacks.

2008: Win, and an easy one. Never a game, and after 3 straight, Life needed to regroup.

That makes me 8-13 over the past 21 years. I have the momentum though - Life dominated in the 90s, I was 1-10 at one point - but now I've got a nice streak going. No surprise that Life came out full of fury from the coin flip this year, but hopefully my recent success will let me grind one out.
